Young, Irwin, Shane, Bottrill Claim Weekly Awards

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly award winners, honoring Alex Young (Colgate), Reid Irwin (Defender), Ian Shane (Cornell), and Ryan Bottrill (Brown) for the week of play ending December 4, 2022.

Forward of the Week 

Alex Young (Jr., Colgate) had five points en route to Colgate’s weekend sweep of Dartmouth and Harvard. On Friday, Young scored the game-winner on the power play in the second period and added an assist on the Raiders’ final goal of the game. During Saturday’s contest against Harvard, Young scored back-to-back power play goals in the second period to erase a 3-1 deficit and equalize the game. With 0.3 seconds left in regulation, he added an empty net goal to complete the hat trick and cap off an incredible weekend.

Defender of the Week

Reid Irwin (So., Colgate) had five assists from the blue line in Colgate’s weekend sweep, contributing to nearly half of the Raiders’ 11 goals during the two-game stretch. During Friday’s game against Dartmouth, Irwin assisted on Colgate’s first three goals, including adding two helpers on the power play. On Saturday, he assisted on the opening goal just 94 seconds into the game and the short-handed game-winner in the third period.

MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week

Ian Shane (So., Cornell) went back-to-back this weekend against Harvard and Dartmouth, posting an overtime loss and a win, respectively. On Friday at home, Shane made 21 saves against big-time rivals Harvard, allowing just two goals through three periods and 1:11 of overtime. Saturday’s contest saw Shane earn his second shutout of the season as he turned aside all 11 shots he faced against Dartmouth. He finished the weekend with 32 total saves and a .941 save percentage.

Rookie of the Week

Ryan Bottrill (Fr., Brown) put up five points this week in three games, including two goals and three assists. On Tuesday, Bottrill assisted on the Bears' first goal of the game in the third period, an even strength tally with just over two minutes left in the game. He kept his production up through Brown's weekend split with Long Island, scoring on the power play on Saturday to give the Bears a 3-0 lead and keep the offense rolling. Bottrill couldn't be stopped on Sunday either, assisting on the team's first two goals of the game, then dding another goal of his own in the second period to put Brown up by two.
