CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly award winners, honoring Matthew Coronato (Harvard), Henry Thrun (Harvard), Yaniv Perets (Quinnipiac), and Joe Miller (Harvard) for the week of play ending January 28, 2023.
Forward of the Week
Matthew Coronato (So., Harvard) put up four points, courtesy of three goals and one assist, as the Crimson swept their weekend series against Colgate and Cornell. During Friday’s match-up against the Raiders, Coronato added a helper on Henry Thrun’s late equalizer in the third period to force overtime, then scored the game-winner in dramatic fashion to nab a 4-3 win. On Saturday, Coronato struck twice, opening the game for the Crimson with an equalizer in the first period then tacking on the game-winner early in the second frame.
Defender of the Week
Henry Thrun (Sr., Harvard) had a five-point weekend, making his presence known on the ice as the Crimson took down Colgate and Cornell in a weekend sweep. Thrun had two helpers in Friday’s game against Colgate, then scored a goal of his own in the final minute of regulation to force overtime. On Saturday, Thrun scored his second goal of the weekend and added another helper to cap off yet another multi-point game from the blue line this season.
MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week
Yaniv Perets (So., Quinnipiac) earns another MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week award after going 2-0 and making 42 saves against Connecticut and Sacred Heart to bring home back-to-back CT Ice championships. On Friday, Perets made 17 saves against the Pioneers to earn his fifth clean sheet of the season, then followed it up with a 25-save performance against the Huskies to earn the 4-3 win and the tournament title. Perets finished the weekend with a 1.50 GAA and .933 save percentage.
Rookie of the Week
Joe Miller (Fr., Harvard) had three points this weekend, tallying helpers on three Crimson goals and helping the team to a weekend sweep of Colgate and Cornell. On Friday, Miller assisted on teammate Alex Laferriere’s equalizer in the first period, then added another on Zakary Karpa’s go-ahead goal in the third period. Saturday’s contest saw Miller earn an assist on the Crimson’s fifth goal of the night and help power the team to a dominant 6-2 victory over league rival Cornell.
