CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly award winners, honoring Alex Laferriere (Harvard), Brandon Tabakin (Yale), Carter Gylander (Colgate), and Nick DeSantis (Cornell) for the week of play ending January 3, 2023.
Forward of the Week
Alex Laferriere (Jr., Harvard) earns ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week honors after a five-point week against Boston University and Northeastern. On Friday at BU, Laferriere assisted on Matthew Coronato’s equalizer in the third period to tie the game at one apiece and force overtime. Saturday’s contest against Northeastern saw Laferriere assist on the game’s opening goal and teammate Casey Severo’s go-ahead goal in the second frame, before Laferriere himself found the back of the net twice. Through both games, Laferriere finished with a +5 rating.
Defender of the Week
Brandon Tabakin (Sr., Yale) had three points from the blue line and blocked five shots in two contests this week. On Saturday at Dartmouth, Tabakin scored Yale’s first goal of the game to tie the score at one goal apiece, then assisted on Briggs Gammill’s equalizer in the second. Tabakin also added a helper on Yale’s third goal of the game on Monday, helping the Bulldogs toa 5-1 defeat of Army.
MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week
Carter Gylander (Jr., Colgate) finished the week with one win and one tie, preserving an unbeaten streak in net dating back to the start of December. Through 125 minutes between the pipes, Gylander made 51 saves on 54 shots, establishing a .944 save percentage and 1.44 goals against average through the week’s contests.
Rookie of the Week
Nick DeSantis (Fr., Cornell) registered his first two multi-point games of the season, scoring three goals and adding an assist for four points during the Big Red’s final two games of the first half. On Thursday, DeSantis scored Cornell’s opening goal of the game and assisted on Sullivan Mack’s go-ahead goal in the Big Red’s eventual 8-4 rout of American International. Friday’s contest saw DeSantis skate away with two goals of his own, including the Big Red’s first and second of the game.
