CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey proudly announces the men’s weekly award winners for the week ending on January 21, 2024: Liam Robertson (Union), Alex Pineau (Brown), Carter Gylander (Colgate), and Jonathan Castagna (Cornell).
Forward of the Week, presented by Bluebird Hotels
Liam Robertson (Sr., Union) claims the Forward of the Week, presented by Bluebird Hotels, accolade following a stellar weekend, amassing five points and leading the Garnet Chargers to a weekend sweep. In Friday’s convincing 5-1 victory at Dartmouth, Robertson notched the game-winning goal. The senior forward continued his impact in Saturday’s road victory at Harvard, registering his first multi-goal game of the season with back-to-back goals in the first period and contributing two assists in the final frame. Robertson concluded the weekend with a positive plus-minus of three.
Defender of the Week
Alex Pineau (Fr., Brown) earns Defender of the Week honors with a standout performance on the blueline for the Bears. Pineau extended his scoring streak, netting his third consecutive goal in Friday’s game at St. Lawrence. The first-year defender showcased his playmaking skills the following night, recording two assists, including one on the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat Clarkson 3-2. Pineau maintained a positive plus-minus of two throughout the road trip weekend.
MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week
Carter Gylander (Sr., Colgate) is given MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week honors after delivering an outstanding performance in the crease, instrumental in the Raiders’ weekend sweep. Gylander showcased his skills in Friday’s thrilling 2-1 victory against nationally-ranked Quinnipiac, making an impressive 35 saves. The senior goaltender followed up the next night with an outstanding 40-save performance in the 6-3 win against Princeton. Allowing just four goals in the 2-0-0 weekend, Gylander posted a .949 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.
Rookie of the Week
Jonathan Castagna (Fr., Cornell) is honored as Rookie of the Week following an exceptional performance in the Big Red’s weekend sweep against Princeton and Quinnipiac. In Friday’s decisive 6-2 victory, Castagna achieved his first career hat trick, including the eventual game-winning goal in the second period. The first-year forward added an assist on Jack O’Leary’s goal to conclude the weekend with four points and a favorable plus-minus of four.
