No. 4 Cornell Holds Off RPI Push

Junior goaltender Lindsay Browning stopped all 18 shots she faced to lead the fourth-ranked Cornell University women's hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Big Red improve to 14-1-2 overall (8-0-2 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 0-22-1 (0-12-0 ECAC Hockey).

RPI turned the game's first big chance as freshman Julia Blitz (Potomac, MD/Washington Pride) appeared to have poked home a power play goal with under three minutes left in the first period. The play was deemed to have been blown dead and the game remained scoreless after one.

Cornell broke onto the board at 1:53 of the second, as senior blueliner Micah Zandee-Hart (Saanichton, BC/Okanagan Hockey Academy) picked out the top left corner from the right circle for her fourth goal of the year. Assists on the eventual game-winning goal went to freshmen Kaitlyn Isaac (Wallaceburgh, ON/Etobicoke Dolphins) and Izzy Daniels (Minneapolis, MN/The Blake School).

The Big Red added an insurance goal at 5:11 of the third, when senior Jaime Bourbonnais (Mississauga, ON/Oakville Hornets) potted her third of the season on the rush. Taking a cross-ice feed from senior Paige Lewis (New Canaan, CT/Mid-Fairfield Stars), Bourbonnais fired a shot inside the left post for a 2-0 lead. Junior Kendra Nealey (Chicago, IL/Chicago Mission) earned the secondary assist on the play.

Browning (Penfield, NY/Buffalo Bisons) made five saves in the first, seven in the second and six in the third. RPI freshman Amanda Rampado (Stoney Creek, ON/Stoney Creek Sabres) matched her career-high with 44 stops for the Engineers, including 17 in the second and 18 in the third.

Cornell went 0 for 3 on the power play, while the Engineers were 0 for 1.

RPI is back in action next weekend, when it hosts Yale University and Brown University at the Houston Field House. The Big Red host Dartmouth College and Harvard University next weekend.
