Verboon, Lee, Haider, Taylor Claim Weekly Awards

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly award winners, honoring Matt Verboon (Colgate), Jayden Lee (Quinnipiac), Ethan Haider (larkson), and Ryan Taylor (Clarkson) for the week of play ending October 23, 2022.

Forward of the Week

Matt Verboon (Sr., Colgate) had a productive weekend in North Andover when his Raiders took on Merrimack. Verboon assisted on a power play tally in the second period and helped jump-start the third period surge with an assist on an even strength goal just one minute into the final frame. He scored the team’s fifth goal himself to cap off a three-goal third period for Colgate and power the team to a 5-3 win and weekend split.

Defenseman of the Week

Jayden Lee (Sr., Quinnipiac) contributed in a big way during both of the Bobcats’ games against Maine this weekend. He blocked three shots in the first period of Saturday’s 4-0 loss, then tallied two points in Sunday’s 6-2 win, including an assist on Quinnipiac’s go-ahead goal in the second period and his first goal of the season to put the final nail in Maine’s coffin and send the Bobcats back to Hamden with a weekend split.

MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week

Ethan Haider (Jr., Clarkson) played more than 120 minutes in goal this weekend, finishing the weekend with an overtime loss and his first win of the season. On Friday, Haider made 16 saves but the Golden Knights would ultimately fall three and a half minutes into overtime. His 21 saves on 22 shots on Saturday — which included successfully fending off three Mercyhurst power plays — earned him his first win of the season.

Rookie of the Week

Forward Ryan Taylor (Fr., Clarkson) tallied two points in Saturday’s 5-1 win over Mercyhurst. He got started early with an assist on the opening goal just three and a half minutes into the first period, then would score his second goal of the season less than ten minutes later in what would eventually stand as the game-winner.
