CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly award winners, honoring Alex Laferriere (Harvard), Zach Metsa (Quinnipiac), Luke Haymes (Dartmouth), and Cooper Black (Dartmouth) for the week of play ending November 5, 2022.
Forward of the Week
Alex Laferriere (Jr., Harvard) had five points in Harvard’s two wins this weekend, scoring three goals and adding two assists. He opened the weekend with Harvard’s first two goals of the game against Brown on Friday, both on the power play, to give the Crimson an early lead. On Saturday, Laferriere had a hand in three of Harvard’s four goals, assisting on the game’s first two tallies and adding yet another power play goal of his own to shut out Yale 4-0.
Defender of the Week
Captain Zach Metsa (Gr., Quinnipiac) blocked two shots and registered three points from the blue line this weekend. On Friday, Metsa contributed to each of the Bobcats’ three goals in their come-from-behind win against Colgate. After jump-starting the comeback with a power play goal in the second, Metsa combined with teammates Ethan de Jong and Collin Graf for the game-tying and game-winning goals.
MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week
Cooper Black (Fr., Dartmouth) earned his first win of the season in the most dramatic of fashions, with a 28-save shutout of Yale on Friday. The first year went 1-0-1 on the weekend, making 47 saves across two contests and allowing just two goals on nearly 50 shots. He was tested in overtime on Saturday and in the shootout, but defended against both and helped the Big Green earn the extra point.
Rookie of the Week
Luke Haymes (Fr., Dartmouth) got off to a hot start to open his freshman campaign and carried the momentum into this weekend, where he scored three goals on just eight shots. On Friday, Haymes had both the opening and the closing goals, getting the Big Green’s offense going in the second period and closing the game out with a power play goal in the final minute of the third to take home the 6-0 win over Yale. He scored the equalizer on the power play on Saturday, helping Dartmouth battle to a tie with Brown.
