PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Quinnipiac head coach
Rand Pecknold and Dartmouth head coach Reid Cashman begin evaluations today (Sunday, July 24) at USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp in Plymouth, Michigan.
The camp –
which runs through Aug. 3 – will be utilized as an evaluation for the 2023 U.S. National Junior Team ahead of the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship. The final roster for the team will be named sometime in December of 2022.
Pecknold will serve as head coach of the 2023 U.S. National Junior Team, which will compete in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Moncton, New Brunswick from Dec. 26, 2022 – Jan. 5, 2023. Cashman will fill the role of assistant coach, alongside Western Michigan head coach Pat Ferschweiler. Current Quinnipiac director of operations
Shawn Roche joins Pecknold's staff as video coach, while former Quinnipiac goaltending coach Jared Waimon also joins the staff as goaltending coach.
"It's an honor to be asked to lead this team, and I'm thankful to USA Hockey for the opportunity and also for the support of our administration at Quinnipiac," said Pecknold
back in April of 2022. "Hockey in the United States continues to reach new heights and that is great to see. Our player pool is as deep as it has ever been, and together with John and the great coaching staff we have, I look forward to the challenge of building this team and bringing a gold medal to our country."
"Being a part of USA Hockey and the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship is the highlight of my professional career," said Cashman. "Representing our country as we strive for a gold medal is true honor. This camp will give us an opportunity to start to evaluate and more importantly build relationships with the young men who will make our team in December. It is also rewarding to be a part of the staff with fellow ECAC coaches Rand Pecknold and Shawn Roche, as well as former ECAC coach Jared Waimon. I am thankful to be here and can’t wait to get started."
