Grandberg, Metsa, Pearson, Mullahy, Krause Claim Weekly Awards

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly award winners, honoring Lynden Grandberg (Brown), Zach Metsa (Quinnipiac), Luke Pearson (Yale), Derek Mullahy (Harvard), and Alex Krause (Dartmouth) for the week of play ending January 14, 2023.

Forward of the Week

Lynden Grandberg (So., Brown) had four points in the Bears’ weekend sweep of Union and Rensselaer, potting a goal and contributing three assists in the team’s contest against the Dutchmen. On Friday, Grandberg opened the scoring with a goal just two and a half minutes into the first period. He assisted on three more of his teammates’ goals, finishing the game with a hand in more than half of the team’s tallies.

Defender of the Week

Zach Metsa (Gr., Quinnipiac) had a four-point weekend from the blue line as the Bobcats traveled to New York for a non-league game against Long Island. Metsa scored a goal of his own and added three helpers, having a hand in four of the team’s five goals — including an assist on the game-winner. Metsa also reached 100 career points this weekend, becoming the newest member of the exclusive club.

MAC Goaltending Co-Goaltenders of the Week

Luke Pearson (So., Yale) and Derek Mullahy (Jr., Harvard) have been named MAC Goaltending Co-Goaltenders of the Week for their exceptional back-to-back performances against league opponents this week.

Pearson made 49 saves in two games against Rensselaer and Union. On Friday, Pearson allowed just one goal in the team’s 4-1 win over the Engineers, then followed it up with a 23-save clean sheet against the Dutchmen on Saturday, his first of the season. Pearson finished the weekend with a 1-0-1 record between the pipes, a 0.48 goals against average, and a .980 save percentage after stopping 49 of 50 shots.

Also defending home ice this weekend was Mullahy, who back-stopped the Crimson to wins against Clarkson and St. Lawrence. On Friday, Mullahy made a season-high 25 saves and allowed just one goal as the team took down the Golden Knights, then followed up his performance with a 23-save shutout against the Saints on Saturday. Mullahy finished the weekend with two wins under his belt, a 0.50 goals against average, and .980 save percentage.

Rookie of the Week

Alex Krause (Fr., Dartmouth) made his debut for the Big Green this weekend, scoring one goal in each of his appearances for his first tallies of the season and of his collegiate career. On Friday, Krause capitalized in the final seconds of the second period to tie the game at one apiece, then scored Dartmouth’s fourth goal of the game on Saturday as part of a comeback attempt that fell just short.
