CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — The Hobey Baker Committee has announced the nominees for the 2023 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, with NCAA Division I men’s hockey staff nominating 12 players currently competing in ECAC Hockey and representing seven different member programs.
In alphabetical order, the nominees are Mathieu Caron (Brown), Matthew Coronato (Harvard), Sean Farrell (Harvard), Liam Gorman (Princeton), Collin Graf (Quinnipiac), Alex Laferriere (Harvard), Ethan Pearson (Princeton), Yaniv Perets (Quinnipiac), Ian Shane (Cornell), Pito Walton (Princeton), Alex Young (Colgate), and Emil Zetterquist (St. Lawrence).
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award, named for the late Princeton men’s hockey legend, annually honors the Division I men’s college hockey player who represents all that the distinguished alum stood for: strength of character, on and off the ice; contribution to team integrity and outstanding on-ice performance; achievement in the classroom and good sportsmanship; and compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations governing student-athletes.
Most recently, goaltender Yaniv Perets (Quinnipiac) was named a Top-10 finalist for the 2022 Hobey Baker Memorial Award. Since the accolade’s inception in 1981, four ECAC Hockey athletes have been awarded the highest honor in men’s college hockey: Mark Fusco (Harvard ‘83, 1983 award winner), Scott Fusco (Harvard ‘86, 1986 award winner), Lane MacDonald (Harvard ‘89, 1989 award winner), and Jimmy Vesey (Harvard ‘16, 2016 award winner).
