Quillan, Bergsland, Shane, Marcellus Honored With Monthly Awards

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey is delighted to unveil the first set of monthly award recipients for the 2023-24 season, featuring Jacob Quillan (Quinnipiac), Tommy Bergsland (Colgate), Ian Shane (Cornell), and Mason Marcellus (Quinnipiac).

Forward of the Month
Jacob Quillan (Jr., Quinnipiac) has earned the prestigious title of Forward of the Month in recognition of his outstanding performance during the early part of the season. Quillan has continued to showcase his talent by tallying two goals and assisting on eight more in the seven games he has played for the Bobcats. With an impressive average of 1.14 points per game, the junior forward has not only emerged as the top point-scorer for the No. 7/9 ranked Quinnipiac team but also leads in the assists category.

Defender of the Month
Tommy Bergsland (Jr., Colgate) is honored with the title of Defender of the Month, thanks to his remarkable performance across six games played for the Raiders. Bergsland's standout moment came in the first game of the season, when he notched his first point at home against UConn. He continued to shine by securing his first goal during the Raider's inaugural victory against Sacred Heart. Over the month, this blueliner accumulated one goal, three assists, and maintained a positive plus-minus rating of one.

MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Month
Ian Shane (Jr., Cornell) is tabbed as MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Month with an outstanding performance in guiding the Big Red to a series sweep over 11th-ranked Minnesota Duluth at the season's outset. The junior netminder made 35 saves in the two games, including a flawless performance in blanking the Bulldogs on Saturday to secure the sweep. Shane concluded with a remarkable 0.50 goals-against average and a .972 save percentage.  

Rookie of the Month
Mason Marcellus (Fr., Quinnipiac) is proudly named Rookie of the Month after a blazing start to his collegiate career. The first-year forward began his journey with a bang, scoring his debut career goal in the very first game of the season. Since then, Marcellus has been a consistent and valuable contributor to the Bobcat offense, racking up an impressive four goals, one assist, and delivering a total of 15 shots on goal across seven games played.
