CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — The Hockey Commissioners Association has named Yaniv Perets (Quinnipiac) a finalist for the 2023 Mike Richter Award, annually given to the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men’s college hockey.
Since the trophy was first awarded at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season, no ECAC Hockey goaltender has ever claimed the accolade. Most recently in 2022, active Quinnipiac goaltender Perets was named one of the award’s three finalists.
The award winner will be honored in April during the 2023 Men’s Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida.
Perets, a sophomore netminder at Quinnipiac, has been virtually unstoppable for the Bobcats this season, helping the team to a 28-3-3 overall record from between the pipes and leading the nation with 28 wins and with a winning percentage of .868. He has also played a crucial role in helping Quinnipiac to the historic 20-win mark during league play, the first such time this feat has been achieved in more than 30 years.
Through nearly 2000 minutes played, Perets has put up a save percentage of .927 and leads the nation with a goals against average of 1.55, all while making 648 saves and allowing just 51 goals through 34 contests.
Perets got off to a hot start at the end of January and has kept it going through to the end of the season, riding a 10-game undefeated streak. In the month of February alone, he earned three clean sheets for a total of eight since the season’s start in October.
This coming weekend, Perets and the Bobcats continue their quest for the Whitelaw Cup when they host Yale in a best-of-three quarterfinal series.
