#6 Cornell Rallies Back To Defeat Syracuse 6-3 at Tennity Ice Pavilion

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Syracuse Orange 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Big Red improved to 12-4-3, while the Orange dropped to 7-17-0.

Gabbie Rud, Karel Prefontaine, Lindzi Avar, Delaney Fleming, Grace Dwyer, and Kaitlin Jockims registered Big Red goals in the game. Avi Adam (two), Dwyer, Alyssa Regalado, Prefontaine (two), and Lily Delianedis were credited with helpers in the contest. Jeanne Lortie made her first career start. In relief, Annelies Bergmann collected 11 saves on the night.

The Big Red led in shots-on-goal in the opening period, but it was the Orange who held a 2-0 advantage on just three shots. Cornell picked up three penalties in the first stanza, and Syracuse found the back of the net on the 3-on-5 advantage. Moments later, Syracuse scored another power-play goal to take a 2-0 advantage into intermission.

Five minutes into the second period Rud found the back of the net to bring Cornell within one. Prefontaine proceeded to light the lamp five minutes later during a power-play to bring the game even.

Avar and Fleming scored back-to-back goals in the third stanza to over take the lead. Dwyer found the back of the net midway through the period to extend Cornell's lead to 5-2. The Orange netted the puck with 1:36 remaining in the game to give Syracuse a glimmer of hope as the game neared it's end. Jockims put all hope to bed, scoring the empty-netter to put the game on ice.

The Cornell women's ice hockey team will return to the ice for a home ECAC Hockey weekend series against the Princeton Tigers and the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Puck drop against the Tigers is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday at Lynah Rink. The contest against the Bobcats will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Lynah Rink. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
