Brown Pushes Win Streak to Four Games with 5-2 Victory Over Stonehill

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (8-9-2, 4-7-1 ECAC) closed out the non-conference schedule on a high note and extended its win streak to four games with a 5-2 home win over the Stonehill Skyhawks (9-20-0, Independent) Sunday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.

"It good to see four in a row," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "I thought we were a little sleepy at times today and I thought we got away from some of the identity that we had been playing with.

"The positive is we found a way to win, and the guys stepped up when they had to. It puts us in a good spot overall, we finished 4-2-1 in non-league, and we go into a huge next five weekends with 10 league games. We just need to focus on playing Brown Hockey, playing the right way and we'll see where that leaves us.

"I like the trajectory of the team; it's a good young team and we've definitely grown and made strides. There's a little bit of confidence on the bench too, which is good to see."

Ryan Shostak tallied his third goal of the season 11:22 into the first period for the afternoon's first goal. Shostak crashed the net and cleaned up Ivan Zadvernyuk's rebound. Zadvernyuk and Leo Schwartz were credited with the assists on the goal.

Zadvernyuk doubled Brown's lead with 2:13 remaining in the first as he beat Stonehill goaltender Connor Androlewicz (25 saves) with a quick shot off a feed from Shostak. Ethan Mistry added the secondary assist on the goal.

Lawton Zacher (29 saves) was strong in the first period and made a great save on a Frank Ireland patrial breakaway in the opening minutes of the second frame.

Ryan St. Louis recorded his fourth of the season 10:58 into the second period to push Brown's lead to 3-0. The junior collected a stretch pass from Max Scott and wired a shot to beat Androlewicz. Mistry added the secondary assist on the goal.

The Skyhawks cut into the lead with 1:24 remaining in the second as Anthony Galante scored his 11th of the season on the power play. Evan Orr and Henri Shreifels assisted on the goal.

Brendan Clark struck just 25 seconds into the third period for his fourth goal of the season. The senior collected a Mistry pass deep in the neutral zone and sprinted past the Skyhawk defense to beat Androlewicz with a back-handed shot from just above the goal line.

Stonehill cut into the lead with 1:23 remaining in the third as Ireland tipped a point shot from Orr to beat Zacher through traffic. A review confirmed the call on the ice of a good goal.

St. Louis added his second of the game with nine seconds remaining, blasting a shot off a feed from Tony Andreozzi to seal the game. Tyler Kopff added the secondary assist on the goal.
