Harvard Duo, Four Other First-Year Standouts Comprise Men's All-Rookie Team

Colgate's Neumeier Earns Unanimous Selection

DANBURY, CONN. — ECAC Hockey is proud to announce the lineup of six outstanding student-athletes chosen for its 2024-25 Men’s Hockey All-Rookie Team, showcasing talent from five member institutions.

Leading the forwards is Brian Nicholas, who had a standout first season with Brown. Notching eight goals and nine assists in league play for the Bears, he ended the season with an average of 0.89 points per game, which placed him 16th overall in the ECAC. In addition, the Scarsdale, NY native was one of only eight ECAC players to score a hat trick in league play, which was in his game against RPI.

Over in Cambridge, Mick Thompson made a name for himself in his rookie year at Harvard. Accumulating a total of 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists), Thompson ranked 9th in the ECAC. He found himself averaging just over 0.5 assists per game and 0.95 points per game, placing him in the top ten in the league. His season included 2 exhilarating game-winning goals, including an overtime thriller against Princeton.

Rounding out the forward selections is Ben Muthersbaugh, who burst onto the scene early for Union. After posting 5 points in his first three league games, Muthersbaugh continued to dominate, scoring eight goals and eight assists. The Gilford, New Hampshire native also led the ECAC in shots with 77 and capitalized on power play opportunities with three man advantage goals. 

On the defensive front, Michael Neumeier was the only unanimous selection for the team. The Colgate defenseman was an asset to the team, scoring five goals and 10 assists. The Kerrobert, Saskatchewan native finished fifth on the Colgate for scoring and earned an impressive +12 rating overall, placing him 8th overall in the league. He also had 2 game-winning goals, most notably, an overtime thriller at RPI to wrap up the season.

Clarkson’s Tate Taylor rounds out the defensive line, having a breakout season in Potsdam. The Richmond, BC native scored 2 goals and 8 assists. He ended the season with a total of 22 blocked shots, which was fourth on the Clarkson team. Averaging just under a half a point per game (0.45), Taylor proved an asset to the Golden Knights this season.

Standing strong in net for the All-Rookie team is Harvard’s Ben Charette. The first year had an incredible season between the posts, finishing second in the league for both save percentage at 0.926 and saves per game at 28.70. The Aurora, Ontario native appeared in 10 conference games, and only allowed 2.25 goals against on average (5th in ECAC).
