Offensive Powerhouses, Standout Defenders Make Up Second Team All-ECAC

Four players from top four teams in league selected

DANBURY, CONN. — ECAC Hockey is proud to announce the selection of six student-athletes to its 2024-25 Men’s All-ECAC Hockey Second Team, representing five member institutions.

Please note that all statistics correspond to the final regular season statistics in ECAC Hockey play only.

The offensive front for this team dominated in front of the net, scoring a combined 34 goals in league play, and all three of them ranked in the top 15 of the ECAC for points.

Cornell’s Dalton Bancroft dominated on the ice for Cornell, scoring 12 goals to be ranked 4th overall in the league, and tacking on 8 assists. The Madoc, Ontario native had 65 total shots (5th in ECAC) to give him the average of 0.91 points per game. He had 3 game winning goals this season, and scored a hat trick against St. Lawrence in February. 

Mason Marcellus of Quinnipiac joins the line scoring 8 goals and 14 assists for the Bobcats this season (9th in ECAC for points). After being an All-Rookie selection for the ECAC last season, the Greely, Ontario native makes the jump to Second Team this season for his critical role in the Quinnipiac offense. He finished second overall on the team for points, and also notched an important game winning goal against Connecticut rival Yale.

Teammate Jack Ricketts rounds out the forward selections, where the Graduate Student burst onto the scene in his first year with Quinnipiac. Ricketts scored an impressive 14 goals (2nd in ECAC), and 5 assists. The Oakville, Ontario native continued to find opportunities totaling 53 shots and an impressive 0.26 shot percentage, also placing him second in the league. He was a vital piece to the Bobcats power play unit, scoring 4 of his goals in the man advantage.

On the defensive end, Clarkson’s Tristan Sarsland proved effective on both ends of the ice. Scoring 6 goals and 12 assists, the junior found himself in front of the net early and often. The Wayzata, Minnesota native also was 8th in the league for blocked shots with 37 and averaged 0.82 points per game. Sarsland also notched the overtime game winner in Clarkson’s first matchup against top ECAC seed Quinnipiac.

Colgate’s Tommy Bergsland joins him on the defensive end, who also happens to be from Wayzata, Minnesota and was a powerhouse for the Raiders. The senior scored 3 goals and 14 assists, ranking him 7th in the ECAC for assists, and second overall for points on the Colgate team. Bergsland also had 36 blocked shots (9th in ECAC) and had a short handed goal against St. Lawrence.

Between the pipes is Lawton Zacher, the Brown standout goalie this season. Zacher posted a 0.910 save percentage (4th in ECAC) totaling 498 saves on the season. He had an impressive 2.73 goals against on average, and had over 1,000 minutes of time on the ice. The sophomore was also named the ECAC Mac Goaltending Goalie of the Month for November.
