DANBURY, CONN. – ECAC Hockey has selected the men’s weekly award winners for the week ending on January 12th, 2026: Jonathan Castagna (Jr., Cornell), Hoyt Staley (Jr., Cornell), Caton Ryan (Fr., Cornell), and Shane Soderwall (Jr., Clarkson).
Laurel Lake Placid Forward of the Week
Jonathan Castagna (Jr., Cornell) claims Laurel Lake Placid Forward of the Week honors. The Ontario native was a key player in No. 14 Cornell’s weekend sweep over Alaska Fairbanks. Friday night, Castagna garnered two assists in the Big Red’s 7-1 win. The next night, he stayed hot, scoring the game-winning goal and the final short-handed goal for a 5-2 Big Red win. Castagna currently leads the team in goals (9) and trails behind teammate Ryan Walsh for points (17).
ADAPT Nutrition Defender of the Week
Hoyt Staley (Jr., Cornell) has been honored with the ADAPT Nutrition Defender of the Week award. The Ottawa draft pick tallied five assists in the Big Red’s weekend sweep over Alaska Fairbanks. Friday night, Stanley assisted on the second goal, the game winner, took advantage of the second period power play, assisting teammate Xavier Veilleux on the third goal, and later found Ryan Walsh in the third period power play. The next day, Stanley stayed dominant on the blue line, tallying two assists on the Big Red’s 5-2 win.
Rookie of the Week
Caton Ryan (Fr., Cornell) claims Rookie of the Week recognition. The Penticton Vees (BCHL) alum scored two goals (1 PPG), tallied three assists, and was +3 on the weekend in Cornell’s sweep over Alaska Fairbanks. Friday night, Ryan tallied two assists and scored his first goal of the night on a power play and his second of the night only 2:44 apart for a 7-1 win. The next day, he assisted teammate Jonathan Castagna for the Big Red’s game-winning goal in a 5-2 win. The rookie forward currently trails behind teammate Ryan Walsh in assists (10) and is tied for second in goals (6) and is third in points (16).
MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week
Shane Soderwall (Jr., Clarkson) is the MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week. The Illinois native went 2-0-0 this weekend against Brown and Yale, making a total of 46 saves while allowing four goals for a .920 save percentage. The Golden Knights continue their ECAC conference run as they head to Dartmouth and Harvard this coming weekend.
