Leading the pack of forwards on the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team is St. Lawrence’s Brooke Mulvihill, Harvard’s Morgan McGathey, and unanimous selection Clarkson’s Sara Manness.
Leading the forwards group is St. Lawrence's Brooke Mulvihill. Mulvihill finished fourth among ECAC rookies with seven goals. The Ottawa, Ontario native led the Saints in assists (9) and points (16), while adding two power-play goals and two game-winners. She played a pivotal role in St. Lawrence’s 3-1 win over Quinnipiac Bobcats at Appleton, scoring on the power play as well as an assist.
Joining Mulvihill is Harvard's Morgan McGathey. McGathey led Harvard in goals (8) and points (12), finishing the regular season tied for second among ECAC rookies in goals. The Braintree, Mass. native delivered a standout performance in a 3-2 win over Princeton in February, netting two goals, including one on the power play.
Rounding out the forwards is unanimous selection Sara Manness of the Clarkson Golden Knights. Manness recorded an impressive 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points, ranking in the top five in both goals and assists while leading the ECAC in total points. The Manitoba native made program history by becoming the first Clarkson player to score a goal in ten consecutive games in a single season.
Defending the blueline are Clarkson’s Kate Manness (sister to Sara) and Yale’s Molly Boyle, a duo whose stats speak for themselves.
Manness anchored the defensive unit, totaling 19 assists - tying for first on the team - and blocked 25 shots. Manness posted an 11-game point streak (three goals, 17 assists) and scored the game-winner in a 4-3 February victory over the Colgate Raiders.
Finishing out the All-Rookie D-pair is Yale’s Molly Boyle, who was integral in bolstering the Bulldogs offensive efforts this season. Boyle averaged 1.33 points per game and led the league in assists with 20, finishing the regular season at +15. The Scituate, Mass., native played a key role in Yale securing the program's second ECAC Hockey regular-season title, alongside Princeton.
In the crease, Yale’s Samson Frey was the unanimous decision for the All-Rookie goaltender. Frey led all rookie goaltenders in save percentage (.937%) and was first among all goaltenders for least goals against (17) in the ECAC. A New York native, Frey led the nation in goalie winning percentage (.933%) and ranks second nationally in goals-against average (1.322), solidifying a remarkable debut season.
