DANBURY, CONN. – ECAC Hockey has selected the men’s weekly award winners for the week ending on March 9th, 2026: Mick Thompson (So., Harvard), Tyler Dunbar (Jr. Union), Heikki Ruohonen (Fr., Harvard), and Shane Soderwall (Jr., Clarkson).
Laurel Lake Placid Forward of the Week
Mick Thompson (So., Harvard) claims Laurel Lake Placid Forward of the Week honors. The Chicago Steel (USHL) alum came in clutch this past Friday night against St. Lawrence in the Opening Round of the ECAC Playoffs. Thompson took advantage of the power play tallying an assist on the Crimson’s first goal of the night. Regulation ended in a 3-3 tie, forcing overtime. With under two minutes to go in the extra frame, Thompson found the back of the net for the game winning goal, punching Harvard's ticket to the quarterfinals, where they will face Cornell in a best-of-three series.
ADAPT Nutrition Defender of the Week
Tyler Dunbar (Jr. Union) has been honored with the ADAPT Nutrition Defender of the Week award. The Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) alum was dominant on the blue line Saturday night against Brown. The Garnet Chargers defeated the Bears, 9-0, in the Opening Round of the playoffs. Dunbar tallied three assists, on the first and game-winning goal of the night, as well as the fourth and sixth goals. Union will face Princeton in a best-of-three quarterfinal series to punch their ticket to Lake Placid.
Rookie of the Week
Heikki Ruohonen (Fr., Harvard) claims Rookie of the Week recognition. The Finnish forward was an asset in the Crimson's 4-3 overtime win in the opening round of ECAC playoffs. In the second period during a Harvard penalty kill, which is ranked third in the country, Ruohonen scored a short-handed goal to make it 2-2 heading into the third period. In the third period, Ruohonen tallied an assist on the game-tying goal to force overtime, where teammate Mick Thompson netted the game-winner.
MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week
Shane Soderwall (Jr., Clarkson) is the MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week. The Illinois native was strong in between the pipes in the 2-1 win over RPI in the opening round of the ECAC playoffs. Soderwall made 21 saves with one goal against for a .955% save percentage. Clarkson will face off against Quinnipiac in the best-of-three quarterfinal series.
