LAS VEGAS, Nevada - The Carolina Hurricanes shutout the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals last night, making three ECAC alumni Stanley Cup Champions for the first time. Union's Shayne Gostisbehere, Princeton's Eric Robinson, and Cornell's Chris Abbott all hoisted the Cup with the Canes.
After Florida's back-to-back titles led by Yale alumnus Bill Zito, Carolina's win marks the seventh-consecutive season that multiple ECAC Hockey alums have played roles in a Stanley Cup title.
Gostisbehere became the 35th player all-time to win an NCAA National Championship and a Stanley Cup title. He joins the late Ken Dryden (Cornell, Montreal) as the ECAC players that have accomplished this feat. He is also the first Union College alumnus to win the Stanley Cup.
Robinson is the seventh former Princeton player to etch his name onto the Stanley Cup and the third to do so as a player. He joins fellow Tigers George Parros '03 (Anaheim, 2007), Kevin Westgarth ''07 (Los Angeles, 2012), Paul Krepelka '91 (Florida, 2024 and 2025), Brent Flahr '96 (Anaheim, 2007) Chris Patrick '98 (Washington '18), and Jeff Halpern '99 (Tampa Bay, 2020 and 2021) on Princeton's Stanley Cup list. Robinson's Stanley Cup marks the sixth time in the last nine years that a former Princeton men's ice hockey player has celebrated a Stanley Cup championship.
