Hovi Supports Bruins as NHL Development Camp Coach

Harvard women's hockey assistant contributes to third NHL offseason camp.

BOSTON -- Harvard women's ice hockey assistant coach Venla Hovi recently completed a stint as a guest coach at the Boston Bruins Development Camp from June 29-July 2 at nearby Warrior Ice Arena. This marks Holvi's third consecutive NHL Development Camp coaching experience after previously working with the New Jersey Devils in 2024 and 2025.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to work the Bruins development camp," state Hovi. "A definite highlight for me was being able to be a small piece in helping the young guys on the ice and building those relationships. The staff from coaches and beyond made me feel home from the moment I entered the rink, which speaks about the organization as a whole. The ability to learn is one of the greatest gifts we have as people and that's what the experience provided. I look forward to exchanging thoughts and ideas throughout the season to better help our team and players at Harvard."

A former Olympian and seasoned international player, Hovi brought her coaching and playing experience with her to the NHL camp, working alongside the Bruins' coaching staff and a roster of 31 prospects. Hovi's involvement with the Bruins adds to her already impressive résumé, which includes two Olympic medals with Finland and a successful playing and coaching career across North America and Europe. She joined the Crimson staff in 2023 and has been instrumental in the growth of the program since her arrival in Cambridge.
