CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its women’s weekly award winners, honoring Shay Maloney (Quinnipiac), Rory Guilday (Cornell), Logan Angers (Quinnipiac), and McKenna Van Gelder (Cornell) for the week of play ending October 29, 2022.
Forward of the Week
Shay Maloney (Gr., Quinnipiac) has continued to produce for the Bobcats, adding two goals and an assist and helping extend the team’s unbeaten streak to nine. On Friday, Maloney assisted on Madison Chantler’s opening goal in the first period and then scored the eventual game-winner less than two minutes later to give Quinnipiac a 4-1 win over Cornell. She added an insurance goal in the final minute of the third period on Saturday in the team’s 3-0 shutout of Colgate.
Defender of the Week
Rory Guilday (So., Cornell) blocked six shots in the Big Red’s weekend split, adding four shots of her own from the blue line and tallying two assists. In Saturday’s 3-1 win over Princeton, Guilday assisted on two third period goals and helped kill several penalties, including making two pivotal shot blocks to keep Princeton to one goal.
MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week
Logan Angers (Gr., Quinnipiac) back-stopped the Bobcats to two wins, improving their record to a perfect 9-0, and earned her second shutout of the season. On Friday, Angers allowed just one goal on 25 shots; it would be the only goal she allowed during the entire weekend stretch. Her 25 saves on Friday against a familiar ECAC tournament foe in Colgate was a season-high and earned her a shutout.
Rookie of the Week
Mckenna Van Gelder (Fr., Cornell) blocked three shots on Friday and tallied the first two goals of her collegiate campaign in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Princeton. On Friday, Van Gelder blocked three shots in the Big Red’s loss to Quinnipiac. She opened the scoring in the first period of Saturday’s contest against Princeton with a power play tally, then added the game-winner at the midway point of the third period to put the final nail in the coffin.
