Daniel, Messier, Dukaric, Walsh Claim Weekly Awards

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its women’s weekly award winners, honoring Izzy Daniel (Cornell), Ashley Messier (Cornell), Pia Dukaric (Yale), and Riley Walsh (Union) for the week of play ending November 5, 2022.

Forward of the Week

2020 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and Big Red co-captain Izzy Daniel (Jr., Cornell) had seven points, including two goals, in Cornell’s 15-goal weekend vs. St. Lawrence and Clarkson. On Friday, Daniel assisted on Cornell’s first equalizer, scored five minutes into the first period. In the third period, with just over ten minutes remaining and with the Big Red down a skater, Daniel converted shorthanded to tie the game at 6. She then added an assist on the shorthanded game-winner. During Saturday’s contest, Daniel added three assists and a goal of her own in the Big Red’s 8-1 rout of Clarkson.

Defender of the Week

Co-captain Ashley Messier (So., Cornell) blocked six shots and had four points from the blue line this weekend, including her first multi-point performance of the season. On Friday, after assisting on two of her teammates’ goals, her own power play tally at the end of the second period tied the game at 5. She also played a critical role on the Big Red’s penalty kill, blocking two shots while down a skater on both Friday and Saturday. Messier scored the game-winner just over a minute into Saturday’s contest against Clarkson, capping off the best two-game performance of her career.

MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week

Fresh from a first season that saw her tie the program record for single-season shutouts, Pia Dukaric (So., Yale) has seamlessly transitioned into the Bulldogs’ starting role. With two wins already under her belt, she added two more this past weekend when the team beat Quinnipiac and Princeton. Making 43 saves on 45 shots, Dukaric allowed just two goals this weekend against one of the league’s top teams and blanked Princeton for her first clean sheet of the season.

Rookie of the Week

Riley Walsh (Fr., Union) got off to a hot start in November, scoring a goal and adding four assists for five points in two games. On Friday, she assisted on both of Union’s goals in an offensive surge to draw Harvard for the team’s first ever tie against the Crimson in the history of the match-up. On Saturday, Walsh assisted on both of Emily King’s power play goals to initiate a comeback after the Dutchwomen found themselves in a 3-0 hole. 53 seconds into overtime, Walsh converted on an overtime game-winner to complete the comeback.
