CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced the three finalists for the league’s annual ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year award: Mark Bolding (Yale), Greg Fargo (Colgate), and Cass Turner (Quinnipiac).
Last season, Yale women’s hockey head coach Mark Bolding claimed the honor after shattering program records and guiding the Bulldogs to a historic second-place finish in the league postseason. Bolding would eventually coach his team through to their first appearance in the national tournament and all the way to the 2022 Frozen Four, where they would lose to eventual national champions Ohio State in State College, PA.
This year’s finalists have a wealth of coaching experience, a history of on-ice domination, and countless player advancements between the three of them.
The winner of the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year award will be announced at the 2023 ECAC Hockey Women's Awards Show next Thursday, March 2.
Mark Bolding (Yale)
Now in his third season at the helm of the Bulldogs, Mark Bolding has continued to set records. In 2019-20, he established an all-time single-season program wins record with 17 overall, and has since shattered that record with 26 overall wins in each of his two years since. So far this year, Bolding has guided the Bulldogs to a 19-2-1 league record (26-2-1 overall) and the program’s first ever ECAC Hockey regular season championship title.
Greg Fargo (Colgate)
Wrapping up his eleventh regular season as Colgate’s head coach, Greg Fargo has been responsible for taking the Raiders to new heights over the last decade. After back-to-back ECAC Hockey Tournament titles in 2021 and 2022, Fargo is looking to make it three straight in 2023 after leading the Raiders to a 18-3-1 league record (28-4-2 overall) so far this season.
Cass Turner (Quinnipiac)
Bobcats bench boss Cass Turner is in her eighth season with the team and has helped Quinnipiac women’s hockey achieve new heights since taking the reins. In 2022-23, she coached the team to a 17-5-0 league record (27-7-0 overall) and a third place finish at the end of the regular season. She and the Bobcats look to claim just their second ECAC Hockey Tournament title in the coming weeks.
