Princeton Extends Win Streak To Five Games With Victory Over LIU

PRINCETON, N.J.- The No. 14 Princeton women's hockey team hosted its third meeting against the LIU Sharks to wrap up the end of the semester.

Issy Wunder got going early and launched a hard shot into the back of the net off the pass from Mackenzie Alexander from behind the goal. The Tigers held a one score advantage at the end of the first period and outshot the Sharks 21-7 with Princeton firing 12 on goal compared to LIU's one.

Princeton picked up a power play to start the second period, but was unable to capitalize. Soon the Sharks were on the man advantage but the Tigers killed the penalty. LIU cashed in at the 8:40 mark to even the score at one a piece thanks to a goal from Maggie Culp.

With just under four minutes left in the second stanza, Wunder was once again going through the line first with her second goal of the night by tipping in the shot from Angelina DiGirolamo.

The Sharks looked to respond in the third period to wipe away the Tigers' lead and did just that with Ashley Morrow's first goal of the season.

The tie would not stand for long as Emerson O'Leary fired in a missile off Maggie Johnson's assist for what went on to be the game winning goal. Mackenzie Alexander added some extra cushion with a beautiful backhander to extend Princeton's win streak to five games to close out 2024.

Alexander and Wunder paced the Tigers with two points each in the win and now average 2.13 and 2.00 points per game respectively.

Princeton will have a long stretch off for the holidays before hitting the road to kick off the new year against RPI on Jan. 3rd.
